Aidan Callaghan to take part in Ironman Championship in Hawaii today

first_imgLetterkenny man Aidan Callaghan will take part in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii today at 6:25pm Irish time.The Ironman Championship, organised by the World Triathlon Corporation, is the annual culmination of a series of Ironman triathlon qualification races held all over the world.The annual Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon was established in 1977 as a way to challenge athletes who had seen success at endurance swim, running and biathlon events. Aidan uploaded a video blog on his Facebook page yesterday where he was preparing for his final swim, and explained that he is “very happy with the way things have gone”, and it has been very “tight with the heat but I’m starting to get used to it. I’m ready to go!”Aidan wanted to thank everyone who has supported him on his journey; “It means an awful lot and hopefully tomorrow come 7am Hawaiian time I’ll be able to do myself justice, and do everyone who has supported me justice.”Relishing the atmosphere in Kona, he says; “This is the place to be when you’re talking triathlon.
